As it happens, Patty also had a friend from Uni who lives in the UK, in York, so we decided – Why not make it a UK tour?
From the Leeds bus station, Patty’s friend from University Nicole picked us up and she drove us straight to York, which is about 30 minutes away and which is where she lives. Patty’s friend is an American who now lives and works in Britain, and she took amazing care of us.
The first night when we arrived there we went to one of Nicole’s friends restaurants, where the service was not the best I’ve ever experienced, and even though we tried multiple times to let the servers know we knew the owner, they seemed to ignore this, perhaps because we were laughing so much they probably thought we were pissed (British for drunk) which of course we weren’t – add to that, one member of our party was an off duty police officer with a great sense of humor and hilarity ensued. The restaurant was also called Fairfax Arms, just one of quite a lot of places in the UK where I was reminded of locations in my home state of Virginia.
During our days in York Patty’s friend had to work, so we spent the days touring the city, visiting various sites and eating lots of food not available in Moldova. The second evening we went to a Thai boxing and jump rope class, then the third evening party’s friend treated us to steaks at a place with aged beef – suffice to say these were some amazing lazy and delicious days.
