For the last two days of our UK tour, we went to London. We arrived from Leeds at about 12, and it took us about an hour and a half to find our hotel and get checked in. Once we had, the first order of business was to get some food and since there were about ten Chinese restaurants on the street, we took it as a sign and enjoyed the most amazing meal of the trip at one. (I had hot&sour soup and BBQ pork with rice noodles – which are both things I can not get or make in Moldova.)
We then decided to head over to a walking tour meet-up we’d read about, but instead we got lost wondering Chelsea and never made it. Chelsea however was adorable – lots of kids in school uniforms, all the girls in coats and hats just like Madeline. Before getting lost in Chelsea, we wondered through Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park where the squirrels are really not afraid of people – one even climbed Patty’s leg, all the way to her hip!
That evening we saw Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abby and met a friend in London for dinner. We went to a place that was supposed to be like Chipotle, but it was a cheap imitation, although for someone who hasn’t had real guacamole in almost two years…it was good. After dinner we were wandering the center of London and saw lights in the sky, indicating a film premiere, so we walked over and who was five feet in front of us on the street? Will Smith. He even rapped the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme song.
After a bit more exploring after our brush with celebrity in London, we headed back to the hotel to get a good night’s sleep, since the next day we had tickets to Harry Potter Studio Tour! (Details on this to follow, since it was epic enough to earn its own post.)
The following morning prior to the studio tour, we went to Portobello Market, which was great, but without most street vendors, since it was a weekday. After the studio tour, which took the entire afternoon, we decided to get Five Guys Burgers for dinner.
The morning after we awoke early to leave for the airport, where after a day of travel we finally arrived back in chilly, frosty, Chisinau.
London is an amazing city and I can not wait until I have the opportunity and funds to return.
